WHAT IS A MENTOR?
-An adult who serves as a role model, guide, educator, motivator, and friend to a young person
WHAT DOES A MENTOR DO?
-Provides youth with consistent and positive adult friendship
-Exposes youth to new opportunities, experiences, and ideas
-Assists youth in setting goals and achieving success
WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR BEING A MENTOR?
-Believe that all children have the potential to succeed
-Enjoy spending time with young people
-Be able to impart a non-judgmental perspective and attitude
-Be reliable and dependable
-Have patience in allowing the relationship to develop
-Be willing to commit to a young person for at least one year
-Be willing to learn from young people
-Live or work in the Bay Area
HOW MUCH TIME DOES IT REQUIRE?
-Initial Orientation
-Attendance at monthly activities coordinated by the Seven Tepees staff
-2-4 hours a week with a young person
-Participation in ongoing trainings throughout the year
